Yesterday, a few members of Tower Hamlets Neighbourhood Watch attended the event, held in the new Tower Hamlets Council town hall in Whitechapel.

Discussions
We made a contribution to the discussion and queried the closure of police stations, both big and small and assume that a lack of reporting ability may affect victims of crime and crime reporting.
A lot of people may not have phones on them at all times, which are charged and have connectivity ability through data and/or Wifi.
Most reporting has moved to either online or by ringing 101. Some people don’t even have access to a phone and/or Internet based reporting and local stations are closed. There are no frequent patrols or no patrols at all. We assume a lot of cases remain unreported and victim become locally trapped.
More smaller drop in stations would help as well as police officers being stationed in busy areas like libraries, big shops, transport hubs etc, so that reporting can be made by anybody not able to access Internet or phone based reporting.
We also feel that the general lack of police officers on the street contributes to the worsening perception of the police as being inhuman or not helpful. Police officers are frequently publicised as policing demonstrations, arresting people and stop and searching but they are no longer the friendly, helping face of communities because they are no longer around. This has to change and the social media profile of police services should be positively enhanced as well.
Drug dealing
Once contribution stood out by remarking drug dealing would go on in known hotspots around the clock with nothing being done about it. Whereby it was remarked by police that it is also a matter of demand and supply. That as long people buy drugs and it is profitable to deal in them, that is when they are being sold.
We essentially agree with this because people have to stop consuming drugs to stop the problem of dealing in drugs and the associated crimes happening, like murders, break-ins, county-lines, kids being drawn in to drug dealing.
